It’s All In The Details – WinMock Barn Event Center

We cannot say it enough.  It truly is amazing to walk into the barn each morning and discover its daily transformation   These days it’s those little details that make a huge difference as we count down the final days until completion.

Take the restrooms for instance.  Long gone is the hay that once filled our restroom spaces.

Sinks are in place, faucets are mounted, toilets are in line... we just need a final coat of paint and our pretty new mirrors and we're all set.

Close up! You would not believe the countless conversations which surrounded the selection of this little guy. In the end - perfect choice. Don't you think?

Also long gone are the uncovered light bulbs that once lit the barn.  We have traded up for some new, yet quaint, additions.

The lighting down our first floor corridor of meeting rooms carries on that same neat lantern look.

In addition to our canned lighting, we added this cool fixture in our boardroom ... and let me tell YOU, we are loving it!

How about we head upstairs, shall we?  Yep, that’s right.  We are heading up our fabulous, new staircase… almost complete!

Another favorite feature - the charming white German siding that has been replicated along the walls. This will soon be the perfect photo op!

And drum roll please, the little detail that rocked our world in person… uplighting in the loft.

Come see it all for yourself!  Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 5th.  We are hosting a “come and see” Community Open House from 2:00pm – 5:00pm.  Spread the word!

Dear Meeting Planners, Our Barn is Equipped and Ready for You.

Did you know WinMock was developed by event planners for event planners?  It’s often an overlooked fact that we here feel is extra important to note, especially if you are part of that corporate/non-profit event planning crowd (like some of us are).

Our corporate event planning team at Sterling Events Group (parent company of WinMock at Kinderton) have spent years carefully thinking through the ins and outs of event facility needs.  We created a checklist of “must haves” and “really wants” and worked with our architect and contractor to develop a design that would accommodate as many items as we could.

Sterling Events Group includes over 20 team members.

For instance, satellite downlink capabilities.  Today it’s a must-have for the corporate meeting crowd.  Our own meeting planners confirmed that and so we made sure you’ll have it onsite.  Conference in Bob from Phoenix in a flash for that next sales meeting or plan to have Jill conduct that next product training for your team from her West Coast office.  No challenges.  We’ll have you covered.

In February we began our network installation. It's something we're sure original owner, Mr. Williams, never anticipated!

What else?  Unique, flexible meeting space.  Why are conference centers so popular despite their lack of character?  Space.  They can handle simultaneous breakout sessions and accommodate large general session crowds.  Great news for you.  So can we.  Spice up your next conference by renting our full campus and pitch a unique escape for your team.  The barn includes nine meeting rooms, two private dining or breakout rooms, two expansive outdoor terraces, a VIP/Green Room suite and our stellar Loft ballroom.  All ready for your next conference.

The Loft will accomodate over 300 guests in both classroom and banquet setups, and over 500 in theater seating.

Moving on to the all important food question… Yes, we will have a catering finishing kitchen onsite.  No, we will not have an in-house catering team.  Why?  We wanted you to have catering options.  We don’t want you to be locked into an inflated food and beverage expense like our planners have experienced traveling with clients nationwide.  We will have a preferred catering list with some fantastic time-tested local vendors.  We also have open minds and will review any other options you throw our way. The food is important.  It can make or break some events.  We want to make sure you’re a success within your budget and your group’s taste.

We're pleased to offer our local catering companies a well equipped space to do what they do best.

We will keep you connected with wireless internet access.  It will be offered complimentary campus wide.   We will also have additional hard wired options available for heavy users for an additional fee.

Wireless access will be available at no charge throughout WinMock along with audio, visual and lighting packages for an additional fee.

Oh and last but not least convenience.  We didn’t really plan this one.  We kind of just lucked out.  The barn is located less than a mile off of Interstate-40 and roughly 10 minutes west of downtown Winston-Salem.  It’s the perfect meeting place in the center of the state and within hours of North Carolina’s three international airports.  And while it’s convenient to the interstate, it’s secluded enough to be the perfect retreat. It’s an ideal place for your team to step away from the hustle and bustle and let their minds wander.

We are located less than a mile off of Interstate-40 near Tanglewood Park and across from Bermuda Run Country Club.

Curious to find out if we meet your next conference’s needs?  Just give us a call and we’ll give you the scoop.  Who knows?  You might just inspire us to add something else.  We can even secure your next meeting date on the spot.

Beautiful Couple, Beautiful View – Another Look at the Mezzanine!

We debuted our new mezzanine level the other week with much excitement but what we missed was a great shot from up top.

Thanks to our adorable WinMock couple, Heather and Jeremy, we now have this gorgeous shot to share with you!

Meet Heather and Jeremy... here, standing on the mezzanine level in the Loft. Can't wait to see them all decked out this November for their big day.

Seriously, could they be more adorable?! And, what a view!  Just love it…

And yes folks, that is a veil you see on her construction hat.  See more fun “bridal construction tour” pictures here.  Who says construction tours aren’t fun?  Or, maybe it’s just our amazing couples that make it that way!

Iconic WinMock Barn Added to the National Register of Historic Places

(Clemmons, NC)Sterling Events Group announced today that WinMock at Kinderton, site of their new special events center, has been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.  The property, an iconic 17,000+ square foot barn, was built in the late 1920s and survives from the country estate built by S. Clay Williams, a former president of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co.

The barn, officially listed as Win-Mock Farm Dairy, was added to the register on December 27th, 2010 in recognition of its importance to the history of North Carolina and the United States.  During its prime, Win-Mock Farm Dairy was one of the largest dairies in North Carolina with one of the biggest and best herds of Red Poll cattle in the country.  The barn’s unique architectural style features a cavernous 7,200 square foot loft designed to hold over 7,000 bales of hay.

“We are so pleased to have WinMock receive the recognition it so duly deserves, said Wayne Thomas, president of Sterling Events Group.  “We consider ourselves stewards of this magnificent barn and look forward to unveiling the beautifully renovated property this summer.”

The historic barn is being transformed by Sterling Events Group into a special events center for corporate functions, weddings and special events.    Renovation is currently underway with Windsor Commercial of Greensboro, NC onsite as general contractor.

Michael West of Winston-Salem based West and Stem Architecture led the redesign of WinMock barn.  “We have been working very closely with both the State and the U.S. Department of Interior to ensure the plans for this grand barn stay true to its historical integrity,” said West, principal architect   “Each design decision has been carefully scrutinized from both a functional and historical perspective.”

Administered by the National Park Service and State Historic Preservation Offices, the National Register of Historic Places is the nation’s official list of historic and archaeological resources deemed worthy of preservation.  The National Register recognizes districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects significant in American history, architecture, archaeology, engineering and culture.  Authorized under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Register is part of a federal program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate and protect our historic and archaeological resources.
