How to Plan a Successful Company Team Building Event

According to Executive Coach and New York Times best-selling author Christine Comaford, the most productive group experiences combine both team building and team bonding.

Team building can come in various forms such as a weekend retreat, a day on the golf course, in-depth exercises at a conference center, or an afternoon spent learning trust and unity at a challenge course. In order to get the best results out of these events and from employees, it is necessary to keep a set goal in mind from start to finish.

Without ways to incorporate the learned techniques and tools into their everyday work, the team building experience remains as a “fun memory” left behind. When done correctly, team building exercises can strengthen the overall effectiveness of a team by creating and developing a strong sense of unity.

When planning your next team building experience, create clear expectations first. What is your team currently lacking—leadership, a collective focus, creativity, customer service, communication, unity between each member? Create a goal from the realized needs of the group, then each planning step taken after laying out your expectations should aid in meeting this goal.

There are many resources and organizations that offer team building experiences, but one way to get the most out of your event is to host the team building exercises off-site for distraction-free bonding.

Administrative Professionals Conference

This year’s 2014 Administrative Professionals Conference held by the Wake Forest University’s Administrative Professionals Committee was an absolute success! WinMock is honored that we were able to be the setting for this fantastic day of learning, encouragement, and fun for our local administrative professionals for the third year in a row.

The purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity for area administrative employees to come together and learn from one another while enjoying a selected group of speakers. The theme of the 2014 conference was “Professionals Supporting Professionals” and included dozens of vendors, three incredible motivational speakers, breakfast and lunch, along with door prizes and goodie bags!

A special thank you to everyone who came together to help make the conference such an amazing day and to all of the attendees–we hope to see you again next year!

Planning An Outdoor Wedding Or Event? Don’t Forget Your Weather Backup Plan.

Who doesn’t love an outdoor southern event?  Warm sun, fresh air, Carolina blue skies… the perfect landscape for memories to be made.  The flipside:  Sometimes Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate and creating a fail-safe weather backup plan will keep you cool and confident no matter what comes your way on event day.

When booking your outdoor wedding or event, we highly recommend you inquire about also renting an available indoor space on property to keep logistics much more manageable if you have to switch gears.   And if you don’t need to move the festivities completely indoors, how about using it for a cocktail hour or lounge area? Maybe it can become an area of respite for mothers with young kids? Or a place to set-up a photo display?

We didn't let this pesky shower slow down our couple's big day. We said farewell to the East Terrace, and hello to love in the Loft!

The Loft was changed from a room full of tables and chairs to what you see here in about 30 minutes. Not a bad plan B wouldn't you say?

At WinMock, we offer two outdoor terraces, the East and the West.  We also offer our event clients multiple indoor space options, including our stunning Loft ballroom, which can be rented separately to serve as the perfect backup if Mother Nature happens to throw a wrench in your outdoor plans.

A Moment To Remember; WinMock at Kinderton Ribbon Cutting (Part Two)

It started with an idea.   A lofty idea really, of how we could preserve and protect an old grand barn and fill it with life once again.

But as we all know, ideas often remain just that… ideas.  To actually see a concept this grand become a reality, let’s just say it is quite a beautiful thing.  The hard work, clear vision and careful execution coupled with a community filled with gracious support were the key ingredients in this transformation.

With us, has been a phenomenal group of community leaders from Davie County and the Town of Bermuda Run offering their expert guidance, insight and support along the way.

Of course we could not have done it without our renovation team from Windsor Commercial, West and Stem Architects, Miller Landscape Architecture and a whole slew of sub-contractors who made a tremendous difference along the way.

There is also a truly special group who we have had the honor to get to know over the past year or so.  The families of  past WinMock barn owners, the Williams family and the Bahnsons, along with William Burnette and The Hillsdale Group from Kinderton.

And now there is our new “family” of WinMock owners and keepers, Wayne and Paula Thomas and their teams at WinMock and Sterling Events Group.

To have everyone come together, all in one room, for our ribbon cutting was incredibly special for us to say the least.

It truly is amazing what a community can build… with just a little vision and a lot of hard work.  A million thanks for all of your support.

A Moment To Remember; WinMock at Kinderton Ribbon Cutting (Part One)

Last week was a big week for all of us at Sterling Events Group and WinMock at Kinderton.  The team at Sterling has been supporting the barn renovation project for nearly two years now, and has watched our new team at WinMock grow and really take the reins.

Last week we all came together as one and planned a special day to unveil a sneak peek of this incredible project we all have put our hearts in to.

Lovely ceremonial speeches were made, a raffia rustic ribbon was cut, the doors were opened and finally the barn was once again filled with a celebratory life.

It was an incredible moment for us and there is just too much from that event to share in one post.  So with that, we leave you with a few special images, a big thank you for all who joined us and ask that you please stay with us in the coming week for more.
